1874
Orlando was the name of a vineyard that was established in Rowland Flat, Barossa Valley by the legendary Gramp family. Gustav Gramp was gifted the vineyard by his father as a wedding present when he married Johanna Koch.

1912
Orlando trademark first appears. During this century Orlando was recognised as one of Australia’s largest premium wine producers commonly referred to as part of the ‘P.O.L. Group’ the industry acronym for ‘Penfolds, Orlando & Lindeman’s’.

1951
Orlando led the industry in sparkling wine technological innovation, importing temperature-controlled pressure fermentation tanks from Germany.

1953
Orlando introduced Australia to a revolutionary new method of table wine production using controlled fermentation methods. The result was a Barossa Riesling, which was immediately judged as best Riesling at the Sydney and Melbourne Wine Shows.

1956
Orlando made further history introducing the first sparkling Perlwein in Australia affectionately known as “Barossa Pearl”. The wine made social history as the first Australian sparkling wine produced by secondary fermentation in pressure tanks.

1962
Orlando achieved what many believed wasn’t possible. The Steingarten vineyard was dynamited into existence to deliver a style of Riesling that hadn’t been achieved in Australia to that point – from high altitude and rocky terroir.

1971
Orlando won the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy for its Barossa Valley Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon blend.

1988
The first Jacaranda Ridge Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon was released with the 1982 vintage.

The first Lawson’s Padthaway Shiraz was released with the 1984 vintage.
